Long-haul flights can be an unpleasant experience for anyone, with hours stuck in a small seat next to people you don't know, barriers to get to the bathroom, and the disgusting smell of airplane food and the irresistible hum of the lift.

Fortunately, Aidan was an excellent travel companion. He gave me his seat in the corridor, and his own tall body huddled by the window, looking extremely uncomfortable. I patted his shoulder, "Let's switch, I want to see the view."
