There is a dry well in the middle of the city, next to the busiest subway station. Thousands of people pass by it every day. It lives opposite the reflective glass skyscrapers and is a far cry from the heated downtown area, but it has never been filled in, just left there calmly, displaying the decay of a small farm economy. Moss covers its edges, and from a distance, it looks like a black hole. Only when you get closer do you see the plastic bottles and paper towels that pedestrians have thrown inside.
